Why I said NO to Prescription Drugs

This is a sequel to my last post so if you haven't read that you can click this link

After two days of taking medication for OCD and pain meds I made a choice to say NO and instead I went to the Lord in prayer, read His word and made a choice to get healthy instead of taking prescription drugs. For the pain I started working out and realized my core muscles were weak which was causing the pain and lack of daily physical activity in my muscles. I watched alot of youtube videos and found some that were way too advanced and so I just took what i learned on abs and core workouts and started doing them on my own for as long as i could which wasn't very long without alot of burning and pain. I did this several times a day for a week with primarily crunches and ab workouts for beginners. I added dumb bells for more muscle strengthening and have also tried  fun dance videos because i love to dance and it's a great workout! i will do a seperate post with workout videos i use for working out and food recipes. heres the link (soon to come)

I keep a thankful journal and have recorded my recent health journey in this journal to keep me moving forward and recommend you do the same to reach any goals keep track of the good stuff and daily find something to be thankful for.

Here are 10 Steps to Healthier Living:
Losing Weight & Feeling Great!

  1. I started drinking fresh squeezed lemon/lime juice in my water first thing in the morning (instead of just coffee) or plain water this helps your bodies immune system.
  2. I stopped drinking diet sodas or any sodas completely after cutting back to 1 glass a day. I had to stop buying it. I replaced with green n black tea instead for the first week. make this a treat to do once a month but i find i don't even like the taste now. also all other artificial sweeteners such as sweet n low and aspartame not good i got rid of them all and replaced with a natural sweetener stevia and coconut sugar.
  3. increased fresh foods-superfoods in my grocery shopping and learned different ones to eat and ways to prepare such as kale and collard greens frozen in smoothies.
  4. started drinking protein and superfood shakes/smoothies, added kale/spinach to fruit smoothies and protein powder.
  5. i added supplements of cinnamon, biotin, turmeric for digestion and immune system booster along with my multi-vitamin from cvs Daily Women's Active (supports mental and physical well being)
  6. added protein bars and homemade trail mix for healthy snacks, also bags of chopped vegies carrots, broccoli, and cucumber can be eaten with low fat/no fat dressing
  7. addressed stress by drinking 1/2 c of red wine and pure dark chocolate with almonds to relax for the first week (now i don't drink the wine i didn't like the taste and the alcohol isn't good for you unless it's completely organic supposedly)
  8. replaced the wine with exercise for the same mood boosting effect and taking naps/resting for stress relief, watching tv to destress (i watched the newest season of drop dead diva on netflix)
  9. get outside and out of the house, by taking the boys to the park and i would walk around while they played and played with them too, i love walking outside nature is very therapeutic to me.
  10. i don't buy all organic after reading the pros and the cons i decided to take the chance of the cheapest produce route as you can read the regulations on pesticides and that brought me the comfort i needed or you can just buy the organic ones that don't have a peel but for me i've found it cheaper to just buy the on sale produce each week and we are saving money not eating as much meat. no, it's really not more expensive to eat healthy!! fruit and vegetables can be frozen for smoothies, stews, stir fries etc. do not believe that lie, think of the dr. bills and medication costs and freedom of being healthy compared to not? what's the real cost?
This is why I said NO to living on prescription drugs and YES to God's plan for my health eating whole foods, fruits, vegies, working out, getting enough sleep, and stress reducing activities. Prescription Drugs? I said NO!

My personal journey has recently led me to a choice in the road of life and I chose to trust in the Lord and to pursue educating myself on natural health. I had another choice which was to take the pain medication and the OCD medication i was given and diagnosed on 7-14-15 while going in for a solution to my back, neck, shoulder, and wrist pain that had been coming back and forth for several months.

The diagnosis was startling although I do like control I chose a different route as Robert Frosts poem stated, "I chose the road less traveled and that has made all the difference." Now, I did take the two medication for two days and did not like the side-effects of nausea, stomach pain, and even less energy than usual. eek! At 35 I am stubborn and never want to be on medication to survive I want to live in a way that is joy filled and I want to honor God with my whole life: body, mind, heart, soul and strength. I started to clean up my diet increasing the whole foods I eat to 80% and started working out more than my daily 20 minute walks by adding some crunches, planks, mountain climbers, and squats. It was not easy! For the first time I could feel every muscle, joint and knew I needed to get back in shape. I don't know if I will ever get to where I was before I had my two amazingly wonderful boys, because that changed my body; but that's my hope and dream.

To date since I started my pain relief journey I have lost 3-5lbs so I started at 146 and I weighed myself on 8-16-15 it read 140.8 and since then it's read between 141-143 so that's why i say inconsistently i've lost 3-5 lbs. I hope to lose more but to primarily discover a way that works for me personally that I can stick to every day to eat healthy, lose weight, have energy, stress release, that's fun, doesn't feel restrictive and so yeah that's going to happen. so it will be an ongoing lifestyle improvement. so that I can love the Lord my God with all my heart, mind, soul, body and strength and be the best Mom and wife that I can be, lol (that reads like the army quote). Mommy Reserves!
